More About Cards to the Heart

Tell me about an enjoyable journey.

How to play

Each card has a conversation-starting question and there’s no right or wrong way to play - just see where the nudges from the cards take you. When you feel like you’re ready to open up more, come back and draw another card. Maybe you take turns answering them, maybe you all answer the same question: it’s entirely up to you. Feel free to skip questions if they don’t work for you, or dig deeper into the answers if they excite you and open your heart.

Tell me about a place you like to escape to.

When to play

Sometimes it feels like there’s a bit too much adulting happening in the world and more play is required. Maybe it’s a cosy evening in, out on a date, or just a way to end your day with your partner. Perhaps it’s a group of your close friends wanting to unwind together. Wherever you are, make yourselves comfortable, settle in for a bit and see where the conversation takes you.

What’s in the box?

Each deck contains 55 question cards professionally printed on high-quality stock, along with an instruction book to remind you how to play. It comes in a durable plastic storage case that slips easily into your pocket wherever your travels may take you, so you’ll never be short of a good conversation again.

The background

We all want better connections

We all want more authentic friendships and relationships. Getting to know the depths of a person’s experience and feelings creates this authenticity… but it’s not always easy to know where to start. Cards to the Heart gives us the opportunity to open up and share about what makes us happy, what scares us, and what we have learned along the way by encouraging openness and vulnerability in conversation.

The first small deck of cards was made just for me and my partner. We loved playing the game together, so I printed some more and gave them to my friends as gifts - they were so delighted with them that they asked how to get more copies to give to their friends. So, after a year and a half of tweaks and updates, I ran a successful Kickstarter in 2017 and had 1,000 decks printed. Now, 2 years later those decks have made their way out into the world and another version is here for you all to enjoy! Most of the questions are deliberately open for interpretation to allow for answers that best fit your mood, and desired level of intimacy. There aren’t any “tell me about the first time” type questions, so you can re-use them over and over as your relationships evolve and grow over time.
